Rcgroups user S.V.V. has provided a great write up of info on ring magnets and how to choose:
The ring magnets used for the encoder must be diametrically magnetized.

Also, experience shows that the ring magnet and encoder should be well aligned and centered. It will work if not, but the results will be just more consistent.

The clear gap between encoder housing and ring magnet obviously depends on the specific magnet and the encoder. One may have to experiment, but ca 5 mm for the TLE5012B encoder and a bit less for the AS5028A encoder are good starting values.

please fill in with your documentation :)

momentarily, just some random stuff

AS5048A External Encoder Modules

As5048-module-pins.jpg

This module comes with many gimbal motors, e.g. the iPower GBM2804. The separation of the solder pads is ca. 0.85 mm.

This module comes e.g. with the HT2205 gimbal motors. The separation of the solder pads is 1 mm. One could solder a JST-SH connector to them.

Ring Magnets

The ring magnets used for the encoder must be diametrically magnetized.

Also, experience shows that the ring magnet and encoder should be well aligned and centered. It will work if not, but the results will be just more consistent.

The clear gap between encoder housing and ring magnet obviously depends on the specific magnet and the encoder. One may have to experiment, but ca 5 mm for the TLE5012B encoder and a bit less for the AS5028A encoder are good starting values.
